Advertising Tips

Follow this step-by-step guide when setting up your advert to make it stand out from the crowd.

  1. Name
  2. Photos
  3. Price
  4. Headline
  5. Description
  6. Video Footage
  7. Pedigree Pages
  8. Veterinary Certificate
  9. Location
  10. Seller Profile
  11. Share your advert

1. Name

Enter your horse's registered racing name, complete with the country of foaling suffix e.g. Frankel (GB). If your horse is currently Unnamed then enter the breeding in place of the name e.g. 2008 bay colt by Galileo (IRE) ex Kind (IRE). You can always update your advert if a name for the horse is registered at a later date.

2. Images

Ensure you have at least one high-quality image of landscape orientation that is a minimum of 800 pixels wide. Anything smaller could look blurry when uploaded to the website. An ideal picture is one where the horse is standing, nearside towards the camera and where all four legs are visible. Further image guidance can be found here.

3. Price

It is recommended that you publish an asking price for your horse, as simply inviting offers can lead to a reduced response rate or a number of unsatisfactory offers. Horses that are priced realistically according to factors such as their pedigree, conformation and race form will receive the most interest. If you are unsure what price to ask for your horse then we recommend you obtain a valuation from a qualified bloodstock agent or trainer prior to placing your advert.

4. Headline

Headlines should grab the attention of the potential purchaser - what makes your horse stand out from the rest? Highlight details such as winning form or notable relatives in the horse's pedigree, or the trainer who the horse is with.

5. Description

Your advert copy should include information about the horse's pedigree, conformation and any race form. You could also include quotes from bloodstock agent's or trainers, details about the horse's current training regime, or future race entries or targets. You can make an unlimited number of changes to the advert copy, free of charge, for up to a year after the date your advert is placed. If you require assistance with writing your commentary then please email support@racehorsetrader.com and we will be happy to help.

6. Video Footage

If your horse has winning race footage then this will be attached to your advert within 24 hours, free of charge. We also recommend that you upload links to any other video footage on external sites (ie. Youtube or Vimeo). Examples of videos include the horse being walked or trotted in-hand or being ridden on the gallops.

7. Pedigree Pages

Pedigree pages are sourced from Weatherbys and are attached to all adverts for no additional charge.

8. Veterinary Certificate

If you have a recent veterinary certificate for your horse then this can be uploaded as a PDF. If you require assistance then please Contact Us.

9. Location

Enter the location of the horse, rather than your own location (if different). As this will give the buyer an indication of where they will need to travel to to view the horse prior to purchase.

10. Seller Profile

Set up your own Seller Profile with a profile picture or company logo to further promote yourself or your company. Your details will be added to our Seller Directory, and all of your horse adverts on Race Horse Trader will be available to view from your own dedicated page on our website.

11. Share your advert

Once you are happy with your advert ensure you start driving traffic to it by sharing a link via social media. Follow Race Horse Trader on Twitter and Facebook and copy us in so that we can share your posts.
