Date of Birth: 20 Apr 2020
Sire: SADDLER'S ROCK (IRE)
Dam: SECRET DOOR (IRE)
Dam Sire: STOWAWAY (GB)
A high-quality yearling gelding by Saddler's Rock out of a talented Stowaway mare is offered for sale.
He stands 15hh, is well-handled, has displayed a good temperament having been led on the roads 2/3days a week, and has no vices.
The dam Secret Door was runner-up to the subsequent dual Grade-1 and Cheltenham Festival-winning mare Shattered Love in an Irish point-to-point, before realising £45,000 at the Cheltenham Festival Sale in March 2015.
She would go into training with Harry Fry shortly after, showing great promise when finishing placed in her first five starts in bumpers/hurdles. She gained her first victory in a two-mile mares' handicap hurdle at Ludlow in March 2017, before taking the Final of the lucrative Challenger Mares' series at Haydock on her next start, with the subsequent stakes-winner Poppy Kay in second.
Secret Door reached a peak official rating of 125, finished in the first three in 11 of her 19 starts under rules, and accrued win and place earnings north of £50,000. Following such a fine career on the track there is no doubting the promise that Secret Door possesses as a broodmare, and this attractive colt by Saddler's Rock is her first foal.
The sire was a top-class stayer when trained by John Oxx, winning the Grp-2 (then) Goodwood Cup, the Grp-2 Doncaster Cup, as well as placing in the Grp-1 Ascot Gold Cup and Irish St Leger. A strong staying son of the mighty Sadler's Wells, and a sibling of the Classic-placed pair Galileo Rock and Tarfasha, Saddler's Rock could scarcely be better credentialed for a career as a NH sire.
He entered the stallion ranks at Beech Hill Stud in 2015 and his first runners have recently started to emerge onto racecourses. Despite very limited numbers, he has already been represented by Shutupshirley, who was second in a Taunton handicap hurdle on her latest start, and Saddler's Cottage, who was third in a Naas handicap hurdle before Christmas. His only other runner under rules, Buckhorn Rocco, was a promising fifth in a Wincanton bumper in March for the Tizzards.
There are clear signs, therefore, that Saddler's Rock can develop into a very capable sire, and this tremendous youngster is out of a broodmare of enormous potential. Please get in touch for more information.
