An attractive yearling filly by Dartmouth is offered for sale at £8,000 plus VAT. She is out of a five-time winning mare and hails from an excellent NH family.
This strong and correct April-born youngster is the first foal out of the Black Sam Bellamy mare Twenty Eight Guns. Trained by Michael Scudamore, Twenty Eight Guns compiled a tremendous racing record and achieved a peak official rating of 130.
She won five times from 30 appearances and was placed on a further 10 occasions. Her successes comprised an Irish point-to-point and four wins over fences under rules; she was also placed over hurdles on numerous occasions.
Twenty Eight Guns retired to stud completely sound and has the pedigree and profile to indicate she can make up into a high-class NH producer. She was notable for her superb temperament during her racing career, a trait which has been inherited by her yearling filly.
The next dam Glory Be, by Gunner B, was a winner over hurdles and fences, and was also responsible as a mare for the chase winning Kayf Tara gelding King of Glory. The extended family traces back to numerous black-type performers.
It is also noteworthy that Twenty Eight Guns' late sire Black Sam Bellamy - a full-brother to the incomparable Galileo - is now gaining a significant reputation as a broodmare sire. From a tiny sample of runners his daughters have produced the Grade-3 placed hurdler Sir Valentine and the dual Grade-1 winning novice hurdler and Grade-2 winning novice chaser Reserve Tank.
This young filly's prospects are further enhanced by the identity of her sire. Dartmouth was a highly talented performer on the track for Sir Michael Stoute, winning the Grp-2 Hardwicke Stakes over 12-furlongs and the Grp-2 Yorkshire Cup over a mile and three-quarters, as well as placing in Grp-1 company.
A son of Dubawi and out of a Galileo mare, Dartmouth commenced stallion duties at Shade Oak Stud in 2018 and his progeny have already realised up to €35,000 at public auction. He looks an outstanding NH sire prospect and is a major addition to the page.
This filly is a cracking prospect with a bright future ahead of her in NH racing.
