Category: Unraced horses
Date of Birth: 22 May 2017
Sire: PHOENIX REACH (IRE)
Dam: CLARITA DEAR (CHI)
Dam Sire: HUSSONET (USA)
A high-quality three-year-old colt by Phoenix Reach is sold from the field at a price of £15,000. The owner would also consider a lease option.
Named Derivanti, which means arising in Italian, he is a half-brother to two winners, including one at stakes level. He was ready to get started at the beginning of the year but the suspension of racing caused by the Coronavirus disrupted best-laid plans; he is now ready to be winning races just like his siblings, so is priced competitively to sell.
A compact speed machine, he is out of the successful Hussonet mare Clarita Dear, who was placed twice in her native Chile. She is in turn a half-sister to Westminster Cathedral, the dam of the Champion Filly Hush Money, who won the Grp-1 Chilean Oaks and defeated the colts in the Grp-1 El Derby.
Clarita Dear's dam Clase produced five winners in total, also including the Grp1-placed Il Campanello.
Clase was a full-sister to the multiple Group winner Clasical Lady, whilst their dam White Lady ran third in the Chilean 1000 Guineas and also produced Seinne, a Grp-2 winner in Chile who went on to land the Tanforan Handicap in Northern California. This is a prolific family with black-type running throughout the pedigree.
Clarita Dear has previously produced a pair of winners, most notably the very fast and impressive Windfinder, who came from last to first to win the Listed Criterium Labronico as a two-year-old. He had been sold as a foal for £5,500 and £13,500 as a yearling, prior to a private sale to the influential Bloodstock Agent Federico Barbarini as an unraced two-year-old. Footage of both Windfinder's racetrack successes as a two-year-old are available below.
Clarita Dear's other offspring include the four-time winner Catalyze, whilst several of her unraced daughters have been retained for breeding purposes, such is the quality of the family. Her two most recent produce are a yearling filly and filly foal, both by the exciting Grp-1 winner Aclaim, who have been retained to race.
Clarita Dear will be retired from breeding duties this year.
The covering sire Phoenix Reach was a wonderfully talented, tough and consistent globetrotter for trainer Andrew Balding. He won the Grp-1 Dubai Sheema Classic, the Grp-1 Hong Kong Vase and the Grade-1 Canadian International during a scintillating career and has since established himself as a stallion capable of getting progeny out of the top drawer.
His best runner to date has been the brilliant two-year-old Elm Park, winner of the Grp-1 Racing Post Trophy and Grp-2 Royal Lodge Stakes, and now a stallion in his own right. Other standout names to represent Phoenix Reach include the Grp-2 placed stayer Whiplash Willie and the Grp-3 placed Rawaki, whilst his son Roy's Legacy won an astonishing 21 races at the minimum trip of five-furlongs, to confirm the sire's potency with speedsters.
This highly promising colt is ready to get his career underway, and a quick glance at his pedigree reveals his first-class prospects. The vendor may also be open to a lease arrangement; please get in touch to discuss this further.
