2019 Filly by Born to Sea (Ire) ex Jocasta Dawn (GB)

An attractive Born To Sea two-year-old filly out of a winning Kyllachy mare is offered for sale.

The dam Jocasta Dawn was trained by Henry Candy to win a five-furlong Yarmouth maiden on her second start as a three-year-old, defeating the subsequent Grp-3 winner Sir Maximilian in the process. She would go on to win again two starts later, this time over six-furlongs in handicap company at Windsor.

Jocasta Dawn has been represented by a handful of runners since having her attentions switched to breeding, with her 2016-foaled Pastoral Pursuits filly Kiraleah placing over a mile as a three-year-old.

Jocasta Dawn is a half-sister to the eight-time winner Dawn Breaking, whilst their dam was in turn out of the exceptional Eveningperformance. Another member of the family trained by Henry Candy, she won four-times in stakes company and was placed in the Grp-1 Nunthorpe Stakes (beaten a short-head by Pivotal) and Grp-1 Prix de l'Abbaye on her way to being crowned Champion Older Mare in England in 1996.

This superb tail line is sure to benefit from the influence of the Haras des Faunes-based sire Born To Sea.

By sire of sires Invincible Spirit and out of the Arc winner Urban Sea - and therefore a sibling of era defining greats such as Sea The Stars and Galileo - Born To Sea was talented enough in his own right to win a Listed race on his racecourse debut and finish runner-up in the Irish Derby.

He has gone on to prove himself a highly capable stallion too, with Grp-3 Flame of Tara Stakes heroine and Classic-placed Sea Of Grace, and the Listed-winners Born With Pride, Naval Warfare and Shared Ambition among his best progeny to date. His yearlings continue to prove commercially popular, realising up to €70,000 in 2020, and there is little doubt that he is a stallion that can produce telling results when given the opportunity.
