A well-grown two-year-old by Dunaden is offered for sale at £6,000.
The gelded youngster is out of the Kayf Tara mare Quench Tara. She was lightly-raced during her racing days but showed ability over hurdles on more than one occasion. Adding to her breeding appeal is that she is a full-sister to the smart chaser Bold Henry.
Trained by Philip Hobbs for J P McManus, Bold Henry was second in his only bumper, won a novice hurdle at Exeter and later added wins in valuable class 2 handicap chases at Cheltenham (during the November meeting) and Sandown. He was officially rated 144 at his peak and earned over £60,000 in win and place prize money.
Quench Tara's sire Kayf Tara was a dual Ascot Gold Cup winner who has collected no less than nine UK Champion Jumps sire titles. As well as being responsible for the likes of Thistlecrack, Special Tiara, Planet Of Sound and Edwulf, he is also now developing his reputation as a broodmare sire.
His daughters have produced countless useful animals such as the Grade-2 bumper winner The Glancing Queen and the Graded-placed hurdlers Uppertown Prince and Holding Pattern. Add into the mix that his daughter Whistle Dixie auctioned for 230,000 at the Goffs December National Hunt Sale in 2018 and it is obvious that his presence on the page as damsire elevates the pedigree.
The sire Dunaden is best remembered for his titanic tussle with Red Cadueax on his way to Melbourne Cup victory, but he also had the class to drop down in trip and win the Grp-1 Hong Kong Vase and Grp-1 Caulfield Cup over a mile and a half. He was retired to Overbury Stud (where Kayf Tara also stands incidentally) for the 2015 breeding season, and his first two-year-olds emerged in 2018.
He made a positive start to his covering career, with his first crop featuring the 99-rated triple winner Ranch Hand and the four-time winning and 86-rated Just Hubert. Both of those mentioned have excelled at staying trips and it is surely in the NH sphere that the sire will have best success, where the stamina and durability he transmits to his offspring will come to the fore.
Regrettably Dunaden passed away last year, but the early indicators are that his progeny are going to be keeping his name in lights for many years to come.
This gelding has an appealing pedigree profile to complement good physical credentials. Please get in touch for more details.
