Rasio Cymru Racing presents an exciting opportunity to purchase a share in the talented David O'Meara-trained dual-purpose performer Stonific.
This hardly seven-year-old gelding ran a great race at Doncaster in early July when a fast-finishing fifth in a 17-runner field. Then beaten less than four lengths, he is currently running off a very good mark and another win on the Flat cannot be far away.
Rasio Cymru Racing is a small and very friendly syndicate with three horses in training with the brilliant David O'Meara in North Yorkshire. The team has previously enjoyed success with the multiple winner Steel Train, who David improved from a rating of 70 all the way up to a rating of 100.
A beautifully bred seven-year-old son of Sea The Stars, Stonific has also been a huge success story for Cymru Racing since arriving from France.
He is a half-brother to the Grp-3 Prix des Chenes winner Ecrivain and a full-sibling of the Listed-placed Starifique. He began his career with Andre Fabre, for whom he ran in pattern company at two and won over a mile and a quarter at three, before commencing his career with David O'Meara in 2018.
Handicap victories at up to a mile and a half soon followed at Haydock and Thirsk, helping to propel his rating to a peak figure of 86 during the middle of that season. He got 2019 off to a flyer with a victory in a highly competitive 10-furlong handicap at the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster, whilst more recently his attentions have been switched to hurdles.
He finished second on hurdling debut at Sedgefield in October and was placed on three of his next four starts, the only exception being a fall at Newcastle in January when still in with every chance of success. Compensation duly arrived at Doncaster in late February, as Stonific stormed to an impressive nine-length success in the hands of Champion jockey Richard Johnson.
An exciting season on the flat now awaits this versatile and consistent animal, and he will start the new season from a mark one pound lower than from which he won at Doncaster last spring. Looking further ahead, he is only just getting going over hurdles and looks to have enormous untapped potential in that division from an adjusted mark of 122.
