Luna Dora is out of the talented Milan mare Ixora, who was a four-time winner over hurdles and two-time winner over fences. She was rated 133 at her peak, ran creditably in the Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and was fourth in Listed-company over the larger obstacles.
She has since had her attention turned to a career as a broodmare, with progeny on the ground by Lucarno, Gentlewave, Kapgarde, Blue Bresil and Falco, in addition to Luna Dora.
Ixora has already earned her stripes as a broodmare, with her first runner Jante Law displaying promise in bumpers before getting off the mark on his hurdles debut at Hexham in March. He followed up impressively under a penalty at the same venue on his only subsequent start and rates an extremely useful prospect going forwards.
Ixora's second runner, Pixie Loc, recently got her career off to the perfect start when comfortably winning a Fontwell bumper on her debut in September. With both runners out of the mare being winners, excitement is heightened ahead of Luna Dora making her debut.
Ixora is herself a half-sister to the Grade-3 placed hurdler The Getaway Star and out of the stakes-placed dual-purpose mare Tucacas, whilst the extended family features numerous black-type performing jumpers. Included amongst that number are the Grade-3 winning and Grade-1 placed French hurdler Blingless, the Listed-winning and Grade-2 placed French chaser Djagble and the Grade-3 winning and Grade-1 placed French hurdler Card'son.
Clearly the product of an excellent distaff line, Luna Dora is also by a young NH sire who has already indicated he has the potential to develop into a stallion of note.
Pether's Moon was a tough and genuine performer over several seasons for Richard Hannon, winning the Grp-1 Coronation Cup on his final racecourse appearance. Subsequently retired to Yorton Farm Stud, his handful of early runners include the twice Listed-placed French hurdler Anneloralas and the promising bumper performer Maid On The Moon.
Furthermore, despite his publicly advertised covering fee never exceeding £2,250, the sire's progeny have sold for figures including £50,000, £30,000 and £25,000, which is a sure indicator of industry expectations surrounding his offspring.
Luna Dora is an exciting filly with extremely bright prospects on paper, and she is based with a young trainer who saddled a career-best 30 winners last term at an extremely meritorious 19% strike rate.
