Shares are available in the three-year-old Equiano filly Fittleton Ferry.
She is out of the three-times winning and multiple-placed mare Sasheen, who has already produced the successful two-year-old Fitwood Star (OR 75), who recently won for the third time in succession. He was line-bred by Alan Wood* on the great mare Special.
Sasheen's granddam Shy Lady was a two-year-old Listed-winner over six-furlongs. Shy Lady went on to produce seven runners with a peak Racing Post Rating of 100 or more including Happy Today and Sasheen's sire Zafeen, who won the Grp-1 St James's Palace Stakes.
Fittleton Ferry is line-bred by Alan Wood* on the fast family of Shy Lady and Equiano.
FITTLETON FERRY - RACING CAREER
1. First race was over seven-furlongs in a strong Fillies' Novice race at Newbury on 19 July where she faded at six-furlongs. Her jockey recommended dropping her back to six-furlongs.
2. Next race was at Lingfield in a six-furlong Novice Median Auction race on 27 August. She was barged aside leaving the stalls, putting her into last place. Despite suffering the heavy kickback from the other nine runners she flew down the straight to finish 3 ½ lengths behind the Brian Meehan-trained Tanfantic whose Official Rating was 86 at the time.
3. Given a useful handicap mark of 56 for her next six-furlong race, a 0-60 Nursery Handicap at Wolverhampton on 13 September, and with the same jockey up, she was cut-up by the eventual winner as they left the stalls, clicking his heels which nearly brought her down. She charged up the short straight to finish only 1 ½ lengths off second place.
4. With a change of jockey for her next six-furlong race, a 0-60 Nursery Handicap at Kempton on 21 October, and off a handicap mark of 55, she tore into the lead from the outside stall and was passed in the straight. The jockey apologised to owners for letting her race too freely.
The benefit of these "mishaps" is that FITTLETON FERRY has an Official Rating of 51, giving her scope for several wins in 2021 with new trainer Brian Meehan who trained both the Shy Lady son Happy Today (second in a three-year-old Listed race), and the winning Shy Lady granddaughter Sleek Gold.
