2020 fee: £4,000 1st Oct
Sire: COMPTON PLACE (GB)
Dam: OUR LITTLE SECRET (IRE)
Dam Sire: ROSSINI (USA)
Chapel Stud is delighted to announce that nominations to Pearl Secret are available for the 2020 breeding season. The sire, who is widely expected to perform strongly in the 2020 first-season sire division, will stand at the exquisitely provisioned Worcestershire stud for a fee of £4,000 1st October terms.
Pearl Secret was a top-class sprinter who displayed many virtues during a 26-race career.
He was precocious enough to win his only start at two, progressed through the handicap ranks to win in Listed company at three and finished a narrow third in the Grp-1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at four. He would go on to crown his career with a thrilling victory in the Grp-2 Temple Stakes at six years of age and continued to show good form in the best of company until retiring at the age of seven.
A brilliantly fast, tough and honest competitor, he was always held in the highest of esteem by his trainer David Barron, and might well have scaled even greater heights had injury not intervened at inopportune moments.
His top-level ability is complemented by superb good looks. A flashy chestnut with unusual and sought-after markings, he has not been short of suitors since retiring to the stallion barn in 2016, covering large books of mares, including numerous black-type mares or proven stakes producers. He has rewarded supporters by demonstrating a very high level of fertility.
He is the highest-rated son of July Cup winner and multiple Grp-1 producing sire Compton Place to retire to covering duties, and is closely related on the distaff side to Grp-1 Middle Park Stakes and Grp-1 Prix Morny winner Dutch Art - who is now a well-established presence in the upper echelons of the stallion ranks. Pearl Secret's dam Our Little Secret was a five-furlong Listed winner around Chester, and clearly this is a family all about speed.
Pearl Secret's first crop is awaited with great expectation once the new season gets underway, having passed the acid yearling sales ring test with flying colours last year. His progeny sold for up to £55,000 at the yearling auctions and were averaging over four-times his stud fee. Furthermore, one of his foals realised €72,000 at the 2019 edition of the Goffs November Foal Sale.
These figures provide sound evidence of the positive impression this sire has made before his runners have been seen in racecourse action. He appears to offer excellent value at £4,000.
