Deva Racing are delighted to offer affordable shares in the eight-year-old Robin Des Pres gelding Knockrobin. Trained by Donald McCain in Cheshire, you can purchase a 1/12th share in this exciting prospect for £1,600 plus just £230 per month.
Knockrobin was a winner in the Irish point-to-point field before joining Donald's powerful stable for the 2017/18 season. After a series of progressive efforts he got off the mark in a novice hurdle at Bangor in March 2018, winning very comfortably by four lengths. He went close to following up next time out before completing his campaign by running in Listed company at Perth, which gives an indication as to the regard in which he is held.
This all set him up to go chasing last season, and previous comments by the trainer certainly indicate he can make the grade over the larger obstacles:
'He has the profile of so many of the successful point-to-pointers we have trained but add to that a dusting of real quality and a little bit of presence. He is a tall, attractive and racey individual and has come from a very small firm who have certainly taken their time with him and he was a very impressive winner on his only start in points. I would like to think he can do nothing but improve and looks a proper staying chaser.'
Knockrobin would go on to make his debut over fences at Carlisle in November last year in a novice handicap, finishing a highly creditable third behind the now 146-rated Count Meribel and the subsequently Listed-placed Jammin Masters.
That run from a rating of 130 marked Knockrobin down as a potentially smart novice, but he proved a little disappointing on his next two starts at Haydock and Newcastle. A mid-season wind operation was prescribed and Knockrobin returned to action with a second at Kelso and a third place finish at Haydock, though the suspicion remained that he was still not able to show the full extent of his abilities.
However, with the new season proper on the horizon, Knockrobin now looks tremendously well-handicapped on a chase rating of 124, and he can surely win off that sort of mark before long now that he has been freshened up.
His pedigree also indicates that further improvement might be forthcoming. A lightly-raced eight-year-old, his sire has produced numerous high-class animals that continued to improve with age and racing, such as Petit Robin and Winter Escape.
Added to that, the distaff side of the pedigree is packed full of winners at a good level, and features the black-type performers Dawn Leader, Indian Spring, Joshua Lane and Oscar Hill all within two generations. Knockrobin's dam Tudor Style progressed to win for the first time on her 11th career start, whilst her other progeny include Tudor Fashion - who took 15 runs to win a race - and Amber Knight, who didn't win over fences until the age of nine.
In short, there is every reason to believe that Knockrobin can continue to progress. If he does so then he looks particularly well-handicapped and he remains a very high-class prospect.
