Sire: Toronado (Ire)
Dam: Sandy Shaw (GB)
Dam Sire: Footstepsinthesand (GB)
An attractive liver chestnut yearling filly by Toronado is offered for sale at the bargain price of just £1,000.
She remains unbroken but has done plenty of ground work including introduction to the roller and side reins. She is a very well-mannered individual that looks like developing into a cracking prospect.
She is out of the Footstepsinthesand mare Sandy Shaw, who was placed over a mile as a two-year-old and later captured a mile and a quarter Bath handicap. Sandy Shaw has yet to have a runner in this country since her attentions were switched to breeding, but her 2017 Nathaniel colt is currently in training with Roger Varian in Newmarket.
There is little doubt that Sandy Shaw is an extremely promising mare, as she has numerous black-type relations. Her eight winning siblings include Andrew Balding's Grp-3 Ormonde Stakes and Grp-3 St Simon Stakes winner Buccellati, the multiple Scandinavian Listed winner La Petite Chinoise and the Italian Listed winner and Grp-3 placed Golden Stud.
In addition, a number of Sandy Shaw's female siblings have gone on to produce winners in their own right, with the aforementioned La Petite Chinoise foaling the 11-time winner and Listed-placed Zen Zansai Zaid. Clearly the quality is transferring to the next generation.
It is also worth reflecting on the increased popularity of her sire Footstepsinthesand, as he is in the midst of a stellar period. His exceptional 2019 crop of juveniles, featuring Grp-2 winner Threat and the highly-touted Mums Tipple, have been complemented by his emergence as a damsire. This season alone his daughters have produced the Stewards Cup winner Khaadem, the Listed-winning sprinter El Astronaute and the Grp-3 winner Klassique.
The sire of this filly, Toronado, was an unbeaten Grp-2 winning two-year-old that graduated to win the Grp-1 Sussex Stakes and Grp-1 Queen Anne Stakes later on. His first crop only turned three this year, but he has quickly demonstrated himself to be a talented young stallion.
He has already produced a host of Listed winners, whilst his highest-rated son Watan was a very good sixth in the Grp-1 Prix Jean Prat on his most recent start. The recent Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale confirmed the apetite for Toronado's progeny remains strong, with his yearlings auctioning for up to £105,000.
With an eyecatching pedigree to go along with standout good looks, this filly is sure to go far. Don't expect her to sit on the shelf for long at the advertised price!
