The stunning seven-year-old Danehill Dancer broodmare Shaldana is offered for sale at £5,000.
Out of of a Galileo mare and from a top-class family, Shaldana is due to deliver a foal by the promising sire Phenomena in March 2021 (not sex scanned but has a vet's certificate to confirm the pregnancy).
Unraced when in training with Roger Charlton, Shaldana nonetheless has exceptional breeding credentials. She is out of Shaleela, who realised 200,000gns when auctioned as a yearling in 2009, and can be traced back to a top-class Aga Khan family.
Shaleela is a daughter of the Grp-3 winner Sharamana and is therefore a half-sister to the Grp-2 winning Champion Sprinter and sire Giant Sandman. Another sibling, the Listed-placed Shalamantika, went on to foal the Grp-1 Prix de l'Opera heroine Shalanaya and the Grp-2 Prix de Chaudenay victor and Grp-1 placed Shankardeh.
Indeed, this exceptional pedigree goes back within three generations to the immortal Derby winner Shergar, who was produced by Shaldana'a third dam Sharmeen.
The covering sire Phenomena is an 11-year-old son of Galileo and out of the Oaks runner-up Something Exciting. Based at Vauterhill Stud in North Devon, he stands 16.1hh and is a brilliant-looking individual who is just starting to get some winners now - notably the unbeaten Oliver Sherwood-trained bumper scorer Squaw Vallee.
Shaldana's unborn foal will benefit from the potent Galileo and Danehill lines coming together, the combination of which has resulted in so many great horses previously. Heightening expectations further is the record of Shaldana's sire Danehill Dancer as a broodmare sire. His daughters have produced an ever-growing collection of Grp-1 winners, such as Minding, Circus Maximus, The Gurkha, Sovereign and even this season's runaway Derby hero Serpentine.
It is also worth noting that Danehill Dancer mares are responsible for numerous high-class jumpers, such as the Grade-2 winning hurdlers Sempre Medici, Thomas Hobson and Song For Someone. With this family delivering excellent results on both the flat and over jumps, Shaldana's 2021 foal has enormous dual-purpose potential and could develop into a superstar under either code.
Shaldana is a big-bodied and well put-together mare, who is blessed with perfect conformation. She is easy to do, lives in or out and holds her condition well, has no vices and is a terrific mover. She has no lumps or bumps and is a real eyeful; you would be proud to have her in your yard. All vets', keep, and stud fees are paid.
Shaldana is currently based on Exmoor, near the Devon/Somerset border, and present connections can help with delivery if required. Please get in touch for more information.
