The seven-year-old Kodiac mare Sarista is offered for sale, in-foal to the exciting young sire Pearl Secret. A winning mare that hails from a fast and precocious family, she looks sure to prove a sound investment for whoever is lucky enough to secure her purchase.
Sarista was initially trained by David Barron, for whom she finished second on racecourse debut over five-furlongs in the April of her two-year-old campaign. A few weeks later she got off the mark at the second attempt in a Ripon maiden, defeating the subsequent triple Grp-3 winning mare Realtra in the process.
Sarista confirmed herself a well above average talent by finishing sixth in the Listed Marygate Stakes at York on her third outing before going down by less than five lengths to the subsequent Grade-1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hootenanny when fourth in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot. On that occasion she finished in front of numerous high-class types such as the subsequent Grp-1 King's Stand Stakes runner-up and sire Cotai Glory, ensuring that a breeding career beckoned in the process.
Unfortunately an injury sustained at Royal Ascot prevented her from getting even closer and limited her to just a handful of subsequent appearances. She retired at the end of her three-year-old season with excellent credentials for a career as a broodmare.
Sarista is out of the unraced Whipper mare Suffer Her, who has produced four winners to date, also including the 88-rated four-time winning sprinter Tahoo. Suffer Her is in turn a sibling of the Listed-placed pair Rigolleto and Campbeltown, whilst the further family features the Grp-1 winner Ridasiyna and the Listed scorers Riyafa, Rajika and Valonia - amongst others.
It is also worth dwelling for a moment on the potential of Kodiac as damsire. The record-breaking stallion has a penchant for producing top fillies - such as the Grp-1 Cheveley Park Stakes heroines Tiggy Wiggy and Fairyland and the Grp-2 Lowther Stakes victrix Besharah - which points to his influence as a broodmare sire developing in the years ahead. This is a view shared by market forces, with his daughter Adorable selling for 450,000gns at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale last year.
The covering sire Pearl Secret won the Grp-2 Temple Stakes and was Grp-1 placed during his racing days and his first yearlings have been very well-received this year. His unusual but attractive markings and his impressive physique have marked him out as a stallion to watch for some time, whilst his covering fee alone is £4,000 which indicates what a fabulous bargain this offer represents.
In short, Sarista was a very talented performer on track, who is related to numerous black-type winners and is the product of a very exciting and commercially popular broodmare sire. With the vast majority of her breeding career ahead of her and a foal on the way, what is not to like at a very competitive price?
