The very good-looking 10-year-old Rail Link mare Ligeia is offered for sale.
She is in foal to Massaat (LCD 14/03/2021) and can be viewed upon application at Mickley Stud in Shropshire. She has no health issues and a vet's cert can be provided if desired.
Ligeia was a useful and precocious performer on the racecourse for the Hannon's, finishing second in a five-furlong Goodwood maiden on her racecourse debut in May of her two-year-old campaign. She won a Newbury maiden by two-lengths over six-furlongs on her next start - with three subsequent winners in behind - before taking a Kempton conditions race by three-and-a-half lengths on her third appearance.
She then finished sixth in the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown, before rounding out her juvenile season with a fifth in the Listed Radley Stakes back at Newbury. She went on to prove she had trained on as a three-year-old by winning a mile handicap at Windsor.
Ligeia has since produced offspring by Kodiac, Iffraaj, Harzand, Postponed, Aclaim and Massaat, and has been represented on the track by two runners. Her 2016 foaled Kodiac filly Cool Kitty made 35,000gns as a yearling, before going on to finish a short-head second in a Kempton nursery over six-furlongs, whilst her 2017-born Iffraaj gelding Ivor was placed twice from four runs as a two-year-old in 2019.
She is now expecting to the 2016 2,000 Guineas winner and Grp-2 winner Massaat, who will have his first runners on the track in 2022. The Mickley Stud resident stood the 2021 season at fee of £4,000 and his first foals were well received in the auction ring last year, and have continued to be as yearlings.
The son of Teofilo is a half-brother to the Grp-1 Commonwealth Cup winner Eqtidaar and rates a high-class stallion project.
Ligeia is herself a half-sister to the Grp-3 Prix d'Aumale winner Shahah (who has since produced the stakes-placed Ursuly), whilst her unraced dam Elegant Beauty was a sibling of the outstanding Dewhurst and St James's Palace Stakes winner Grand Lodge, who later developed into a top-class sire.
Her sire Rail Link, the 2006 Arc winner, is now an accomplished broodmare sire. His daughters are responsible for numerous smart types such as the Grp-2 winner San Huberto, the Grp-3 and Old Newton Cup winner Alounak and the Listed-winner American Coffee.
Don't miss out on this fine opportunity to purchase an economically priced and well-related mare with a foal on the way to an exciting young stallion.
