The 16-year-old Stravinsky mare Bassinet is offered for sale at £3,000. She is due to deliver a foal to Top Trip on the 20th of April.
Unraced as a two-year-old and trained in France early in her career, Bassinet went on to win mile and a half handicaps at Newmarket as a four-year-old and Lingfield as a five-year-old when based in Britain.
She has since gone on to prove herself a useful producer, with three of her six progeny to have raced thus far being winners. Her most notable offspring is the six-time winner and formerly 80-rated seven-furlong specialist Gun Case, though her Halling mare Perfect Rhythm won twice over middle distances and her Bated Breath filly Perfect Grace won over a mile and a quarter last season.
The stamina she can impart to her progeny bodes well for prospects as a NH producer in the future, as does her pedigree. This is of particular significance given that she is about to give birth to a foal by the promising young jumps sire Top Trip.
She is out of the Grp-3 Prix de Royaumont heroine Berceau, so is therefore a half-sister to the French Listed winner Birthplace. Her other siblings include the Grade-1 placed hurdler Borazon and the Grade-3 placed hurdler Name For Fame. The last-named has since turned into a high-quality NH broodmare, with her daughter Put The Kettle On memorably winning the Grade-1 Arkle Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival earlier in the week.
Bassinet's sire Stravinsky is recognised as a high-class broodmare sire, whose daughters have given such outstanding individuals as Rip Van Winkle, Tepin and Lankan Rupee. His mares have long been coveted assets at broodmare sales around the world.
Bassinet is a proven mare who is set to deliver a promising foal in the near future. Her pedigree is full of black-type animals under either code and has received a significant boost with the news that her half-sister has produced a Grade-1 Cheltenham Festival winner this season. She looks a steal at the advertised price.
