The highly successful Barathea broodmare Barracade is offered for sale at £2,800. She is being sold as part of a dispersal due to her current owner's retirement. She carried twins for the majority of her term in 2018, which left her barren in 2019, but she is now ready to be covered in 2020.
Barracade was sparingly campaigned during her racing days, but showed promise when fourth in a warm Gowran maiden over seven-furlongs as a two-year-old, finishing just two places behind the subsequently Grp-1 placed Red Rock Canyon. She also went on to place in a mile and a quarter maiden as a three-year-old.
She has gone on to surpass those achievements since her attentions were switched to breeding, producing a total of six winners to date.
Her most notable runner is the triple winner and Grp-2 Rockfel Stakes runner-up Blockade, whilst her 2016-foaled Moohaajim colt Hard Taskmaster won four consecutive races in 2018 on his way to an official rating of 84. Barracade is a sibling of the multiple US Grade-2 placed performer Spider Power, from a family that traces back to an enormous number of stakes performers.
Within three generations we find the Grp-1 Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Signs of Blessing, the Grp-2 Hardwicke Stakes winner Zindabad, the Grp-2 Flying Childers Stakes victor Howick Falls, the dual North American Grade-1 winner Divisidero, the multiple Grade-1 winning US Champion mare Flawlessly, plus many, many more.
With so much quality on the page, it is unsurprising that Barracade's progeny have a habit of selling extremely well in the sales ring. Her Kodiac filly Kakashan realised 250,000gns at the 2014 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, before going on to win for John Gosden, whilst her son High Fort made 150,000gns at the 2016 edition of the same sale. He got off the mark at Newcastle last month.
Indeed, Barracade's continued commercial appeal was in evidence as recently as April 2019, as her Dawn Approach filly Debbie Dawn made 40,000gns at the Goffs Breeze-Up, before going on to win on her two-year-old debut.
Barracade is a high-class mare with a proven track record of both racecourse and sales ring success. She has plenty of good breeding years left in her and looks a steal at the advertised price.
