Dam Sire: Alflora (IRE)
A stunning yearling by Sun Central is offered for sale.
The February-foaled youngster is a gelded son of the Alflora mare Alflora Dora and looks a strong and mature type with excellent potential. He has a positive attitude to all he does and is very straight and correct. The mare has had two previous foals, but is yet to be represented by a runner.
Alflora Dora was a three-time winner in the pointing field that finished in the first three on four of her six starts over hurdles. She began her career by finishing fourth in a warm Cheltenham bumper as a four-year-old when a highly-regarded youngster with Alan King, but was still winning points at eight years of age - demonstrating that she supplies a lovely blend of longevity and precocity.
Her siblings include the useful three-time chase winner (from just six starts) Kentford Legend and Shammy Buskins, a six-time winner in total under NH rules. Their dam Quistaquay was a seven-time winner on the track, and the extended family features the Listed-placed chaser Kentford Fern.
The sire Sun Central is an exciting prospect whose progress will be fascinating to track. An impeccably-bred Galileo half-brother to the brilliant 2,000 Guineas winner George Washington and Grp-1 Irish Champion Stakes, Singapore Airlines International Cup and Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner Grandera, Sun Central displayed above average talent himself.
He was a smart handicapper at three and progressed to win his final two starts at four at Listed-level. He retired officially rated 111 with the distinct feeling that he could have gone higher – indeed Timeform allotted him a rating of 119 and described him as a ‘lengthy well-made horse’. He stayed a mile and three-quarters well, but had the speed for shorter too, which marks him out as a tremendous fit for many NH mares. The fact his potential remained untapped on the track is surely a positive for breeders that latch onto his stock early, as they will surely be available at reduced rates.
This lovely-looking gelding is only being sold as the owner has retained the first two foals out of the mare to race – interest in him is expected to be high.
