Flotation was a promising two-year-old that broke her maiden in the famous Khalid Abdullah silks for trainer Barry Hills at three, before continuing to run until five years of age. She has produced two prior foals, though they remain unraced.
Her pedigree credentials for a breeding career are excellent. Flotation is a half-sister to the Listed-placed pair Moonday Sun and Cruel Sea, whilst their dam Storm Dove won the Listed Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Another half-sister produced the Australian Grp-1 winner Speed Gifted, whilst Flotation's second dam was the multiple Stakes winner Daeltown.
Although Flotation's sire Chapel Royal is not a household name and has not produced a plethora of big-race winners, the Grade-2 winning and Grade-1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile-placed two-year-old is the damsire of US Grade-2 winner Royal Lahaina and the Canadian Grade-3 winner Sorryaboutnothing.
The sire of this youngster is the 2011 Grp-1 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden. Although best known for his famous win in the staying event, where he denied Red Cadeaux by a nose, he also won the Grp-1 Hong Kong Vase and Grp-1 Caulfield Cup over a mile and a half, so boasted speed as well as stamina. This point has been reflected in his decent start with his first crop two-year-olds. Sweet Pearl was a promising winner at Kempton last month, Loving Pearl has been second twice and Boorowa has been placed too.
The sire has been well patronised by his racing owners and is being given every chance to succeed, so it remains an excellent time to purchase his stock.
This youngster has an appealing pedigree and the size and scope to keep going forward and do well for years to come. As the product of a Juddmonte-bred mare and an exciting young sire, he looks an absolute steal at the advertised price.
