An attractive and imposing two-year-old colt by Dunaden is offered for sale.
He is out of the Excellent Art mare Excellent News, who was a consistent sort during her racing career, winning over a mile and a half on the AW at Wolverhampton, and placing on numerous other occasions. She retired sound and clean-limbed, and looks to have a bright future as a broodmare. The Dunaden juvenile was her first foal, and she has since produced a yearling filly by Sun Central.
Excellent News was one of six winners out of the winning US mare Subito. Her siblings include Silk Mascara, a €100,000 yearling purchase that won on racecourse debut, the 85-rated mile and a quarter winner Zipp, who fetched €65,000 as a yearling, and the 70,000gns yearling purchase Randwick, who ran in a Derby trial on the second of just four starts in Britain before later winning in Italy.
Those figures confirm the quality of this distaff line, which features numerous winners under both codes. The quality is underlined by the presence of Grp-3 St Simon Stakes heroine and successful broodmare Hazel Lavery under the third dam.
The sire Dunaden is best remembered for his thrilling victory in the 2011 Melbourne Cup, but he also won the Grp-1 Caulfield Cup and Grp-1 Hong Kong Vase over a mile and a half, and collected more than £5 million in career prize money. His first two-year-olds are on track this season, and he looks sure to make huge appeal as a dual-purpose sire going forward.
His first juvenile to run in this country was the Ralph Beckett-trained Loving Pearl, who finished an excellent second and looks sure to become one of her sire's first winners in the near future. An additional incentive is the Dunaden Owners Premium, which has been devised by Dunaden's owner Sheikh Fahad in order to boost interest in the sire's first crop representatives. This generous offer will see the earnings in Britain and Ireland of all two and three-year-olds from his first crop boosted by 64%. Find out more here.
This youngster has an appealing pedigree that hints at an exciting future, with multiple paths open to him. He should make a fine flat horse in the short term, but surely has the scope and pedigree to jump a hurdle too later on.
