The progressive Sunhill Lad looks a fine prospect for trainer Ann Duffield. Shares from 10% to 50% are available in the two-year-old son of Lilbourne Lad, who has made a fine start to his career and is rich in promise.
He made his debut over a mile at Newcastle last month, when belying odds of 50/1 to finish a highly creditable third. He backed that up less than a week later at Pontefract, when running another terrific race; this time showing guts and tenacity to edge out previous winner Austrian School in a tight photo for second place. After two such promising runs, Sunhill Lad looks a young horse to keep on the right side.
He is out of Gris Ladera, who was a winner over an extended mile at the prestigious Galway Festival. She is a half-sister to winners, including the useful Chapter And Verse - who won seven-times and was rated as high as 100. The third dam Beautiful France was victorious on her only racecourse appearance, and has been responsible for numerous winners including the group-3 placed Beautiful Fire.
It is early days for Gris Ladera as a broodmare, but her prospects look bright judged by events on track this year. Her sire Verglas has seen his stock as a damsire rise significantly through the exploits of group race scorers Nyaleti, Armande and Darbuzan.
Sunhill Lad has so far raced over a mile, but it is surely when he races over significantly further that we will see his true potential realised. Although his sire Lilbourne Lad was a tremendously speedy two-year-old, he hasn't been pigeon-holed as a speed-only stallion. His best runners so far include the 12-furlong winner Southdown Lad, and his strike rate in Britain between 2012 and 2016 reads a highly impressive 10 from 61 when only considering his runners at a mile and a quarter or further.
Sunhill Lad is tough, sound and genuine - and his trainer notes that he is a 'smashing, progressive two-year-old for staying races next year'. With such a positive and exciting profile, interest is expected to be very strong.
Shares available from 10% to 50%. e.g. a 25% share (includes all fees and expenses to the end of October 2017) is £7,090.25, plus VAT (reclaimable).
