BGC Racing is delighted to offer 5% shares in the winning hurdler/chaser Sam Red. He is trained by Dan Skelton in Warwickshire.
A French-bred gelding, Sam Red ran once on the flat in his native country before transferring to Ireland and beginning his career over hurdles. He was placed on hurdling debut behind the subsequent Grade-1 winner Whiteout, before scoring by 26-lengths in a Navan maiden hurdle on his next start. That effort earned him a tilt at a higher class, and he did not disappoint, finishing a fine third in a Fairyhouse Grade-3 novice hurdle.
Sam Red was lightly-raced over the following two years, but was transferred to the care of the increasingly powerful Dan Skelton stable in early 2017. He was set a stiff task on stable debut in the Lanzarote Hurdle from a mark of 133, running with credit, before finishing second on his next start in a handicap hurdle at Wetherby over three miles, an effort which moved him to a career high mark of 139.
Soon afterwards his attentions were switched to fences, and he won at the second time of asking at Stratford and then followed up impressively at Fakenham last October. He was stepped up to Listed class at Newcastle for his next start, but took a heavy fall which knocked his confidence somewhat.
He took a while to get over that mishap, but a few quiet runs have allowed the handicapper to show some leniency, and he has dropped to an attractive mark in both disciplines. His chase rating of 118 proved to be as good as it looked, and in October 2018 Sam Red and amateur rider William Marshall galloped to a famous success in a handicap chase at Cheltenham. Dan Skelton had long believed that he could win a nice handicap this season, and now that he is refreshed and over his confidence issues, there is every chance that he can build on that victory in the months to come.
Effective over a variety of trips and on summer or winter ground, Sam Red is only seven years of age and hopefully his best days remain ahead of him. He looks a tremendously exciting prospect for BGC Racing and the syndicate members.
There are four 5% shares remaining in Sam Red. The initial up-front purchase cost is £1500, followed by ongoing monthly payments of £125, staring January 31st, 2019.. This entitles you to two Owners and Trainers badges every time the horse runs, as well as your share of prize-money and your percentage from any future sale of the horse. There will be the opportunity to go and visit the horse at the yard by appointment with BGC Racing, and each syndicate member will receive regular updates on the horse's progress and will be assigned a personal account manager who is contactable 24/7.
