Lets Be Lucky Racing are delighted to offer shares in the five-year-old gelding Muhajjal. A well-bred son of Cape Cross, he was a winner on the AW at three and now looks very well-handicapped. He is trained by Rebecca Bastiman from her Wetherby base.
Lets Be Lucky Racing is a unique family-run syndicate, which offers members a personal, hands on experience. Owners receive weekly email updates on the progress of their horses, the opportunity to visit the stables regularly and the chance to share in the thrill of a day at the races. With a proven track record thanks to the exploits of multiple winners like Newstead Abbey and Play Nicely and having been to Royal Ascot and many other major race meetings, you can be sure that you won't go far wrong with LBL!
Out of a half-sister to the Grp-2 winning Irish 1,000 Guineas third Laughing Lashes, Muhajjal began his career in the famous blue and white Hamdan Al Maktoum silks and showed a high level of ability to accumulate form figures of 334 as a two-year-old.
His third effort was particularly notable, as he was just four and a quarter lengths behind the brilliant Grp-1 St James's Palace Stakes winner and 2,000 Guineas runner-up Barney Roy, with the subsequently Grp-3 placed Crowned Eagle in third, subsequent Grp-3 winner Pincheck in fourth and subsequent Listed winner Kasperenko in fifth.
Despite this advertisement of his quality, Muhajjal lost his way for the majority of his three-year-old campaign, before a dropping mark saw him win a seven-furlong Lingfield handicap in December 2017 in decisive fashion. He was a good second next time out and continued to run with credit until mid-summer last year, since when he has been off the track.
Now safely ensconced in the yard of Rebecca Bastiman, he looks just the sort of horse that will improve bundles for going to a yard that can offer him individual attention and time turned out in a paddock. Rebecca is feeding him up and giving him all the time he needs, whilst a gelding operation and extended break will hopefully unearth lots of extra improvement.
His rating of 65 looks extremely lenient based on his earlier form, and the trainer reports that he moves like a dream and is one to look forward to. This attractive and well-related horse is only just reaching his peak and looks sure to thrive in his new surroundings. Expectations are high that he will prove a flagbearer for LBL during the 2019 season.
