Sire: ROCK OF GIBRALTAR (IRE)
Dam: AFRICAN QUEEN (GER)
Dam Sire: NICARON (GER)
Ventura Racing is delighted to offer shares ranging from 2.5% to 10% in the two-year-old gelding Alcatraz Island, who is trained by Marco Botti in Newmarket.
He is out of the unraced Nicaron mare African Queen, who hails from a fine German family. Her near relations include the multiple Grp-3 winner and Grp-1 placed Amarillo, who is now at stud, and the Grp-3 winner Aslana.
Further siblings of African Queen include the Listed-placed Antique Rose and the Grp-3 placed Art Antique, the former of whom has gone on to success as a broodmare in her own right. Her daughter Artemisia was placed in a Grp-2 German Oaks trial, to confirm that the enduring quality of the distaff line is transmitting to the next generation.
Alcatraz Island is by the great Rock Of Gibraltar, a seven-time Grp-1 winner on the track and the sire of such Grp-1 winning luminaries as Eagle Mountain, Mount Nelson, Society Rock, Varenar and Prince Gibraltar.
The sire commands a covering fee of €7,500, the average sales price of his stock remains over 50,000gns and his progeny have sold for as much as 900,000gns in the past. These figures put into perspective the tremendous value on offer here.
Ventura Racing is a new and exciting syndicate that proves that horse racing is no longer a sport reserved for just the Kings. The team celebrated their first winner with Capla Rock earlier this season, a two-year-old filly in training with Marco Botti. It was surely the first of many.
