The seven-year-old Camacho mare Melanna is offered for sale. Standing 15.3 hands high, Melanna is a good-natured horse, with no vices. She is well handicapped enough to continue racing with great prospects, though she has the looks and pedigree to be sold as a broodmare. Furthermore, she has the temperament to make a lovely riding horse should her new owner desire.
She is out of the mare Colour's Red, a daughter of the top-class stallion Red Ransom. Melanna began her career when placed in a Wexford bumper at four-years. Soon her attentions were switched to the flat, where she excelled at up to a mile-and-a-half, winning three competitive handicaps, including at The Curragh. In total she won or placed in 11 of her 28 starts and climbed to a peak rating of 79.
She was transferred to England for the 2017 season, though she couldn't quite recapture her best form - despite numerous creditable efforts. The upshot of her disappointing campaign is that she now finds herself rated just 53. This is an exceptionally attractive mark for a filly that has proven her ability to handle good ground or significantly softer and the AW.
As a mare that started life in bumpers, she remains relatively lightly-raced for her age and surely has much more to offer, be it on the flat or over jumps. She is a half-brother to the four-time winner (including over hurdles) Three Colours Red and is a beautifully put together and correct mare with a fine conformation and a clean medical record - so there is every reason to expect her to thrive as a broodmare. To further boost her profile as a possible future dam, it must be noted that her sire Camacho saw his profile as a damsire increase significantly in 2017 thanks to the Grp-2 Rockfel Stakes heroine Juliet Capulet.
This lovely mare has all sorts of options going forward and is very competitively priced at just £6,000. She is very sound and open to vetting by any potential buyer.
