In training with Iain Jardine, this really strong and imposing sprinter showed he is approaching peak form when winning a very competitive Class 4 handicap over six furlongs at Chester in the second week in June.
Working like a 90s-rated horse at home, Dragon King has now won four times over six furlongs, with those wins coming on a variety of ground from good to soft. He has placed a further five times which has meant he has accrued approaching £34,000 in win and place prize-money,
His sire, Dylan Thomas, was a top-class middle-distance horse and winner of the 2007 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Since retiring to stud he has excelled, with his progeny known to develop well with racing. They include Coronation Cup-winner Pether's Moon, and eight-time winner in Hong Kong, Blazing Speed.
Dragon King's dam, Alexander Queen, was a winner of a competitive five furlong maiden in Ireland. She has produced five winners including Dragon King. Alkaaser, another of the five, won a Listed race for Dermot Weld as a three-year-old.
With one courageous win already on the boards this season, he remains on a good mark and looks sure to follow-up with similar successes.
