Multiple winner and proven broodmare Snake Skin is offered for sale due to her owner’s relocation abroad. A winner over distances ranging from seven-furlongs as a two-year-old to a mile-and-a-half later on, she was a notably tough, sound and consistent performer on the track. At stud, she has already proven that she can produce offspring that surpass her not insignificant ability.
Snake Skin is a daughter of four-time Group-1 winning stallion Golden Snake, and is nicely related on the distaff side. Her close relatives include the prolific Listed-placed sprinter Frascati, but also numerous winners over further and over jumps. Snake Skin’s dam Silken Dalliance was a four-time winner at up to a mile and has gone on to produce several winners. These include the flat/hurdles/chase winner Oceana Gold - who was rated as high as 140 over jumps at his peak - and the multiple winner Oceana Blue, who was effective at trips short of a mile. The dam of five winners in total, she was capable of producing useful performers at a wide range of trips and disciplines.
The same can be said of Snake Skin, and as such she offers breeders an unusually versatile proposition. The best of her three foals to have raced so far is Echo Brava, a seven-time winner on the flat-turf and all-weather, at distances ranging from a mile to a mile-and-three-quarters. He was rated as high as 86 at his best, and has also finished second three times from just five outings over hurdles. Snake Skin’s 2014 foal by Virtual, Junoesque (pictured), has made great progress on the track this year, and was a close-up third in a competitive Sandown mile handicap in August, with the promise of more to come.
A kind and easy mare, with no vices and a clean medical history, Snake Skin is not in foal and without a foal at foot. She has a fine looking yearling set to go to auction at the Goffs November sale, by the extremely fashionable sire Delegator. For breeders with varying needs, Snake Skin represents a fantastic opportunity to purchase a proven broodmare, with plenty of good breeding years ahead of her.
