The seven-year-old Presenting mare Royal Debutante is offered for sale as a breeding prospect.
A talented sort when in training with Paul Webber, she won a Ludlow bumper on her racecourse debut in emphatic fashion by six lengths. She would go on to run twice more in bumpers, including in a Listed contest at Sandown, before having her attentions switched to obstacles.
Royal Debutante was placed on her first two starts over timber at Huntingdon, and would go on to win a Market Rasen handicap over an extended two miles by nine lengths in April 2017, ascending to a peak official rating of 120. She was second on her next start before a fall over fences knocked her confidence and led to a slight dip in form. She retires sound and with exciting prospects as a broodmare.
Her unraced dam Chinatownqueen is a half-sister to the smart and versatile Pires, who won and was Listed-placed on the flat as a two-year-old, but would go on to win three hurdle races and two chases and reach a rating of 139 over obstacles. That Pires would be so talented and speedy on the flat is surprising (he also finished fifth in a Cambridgeshire) as this is a pedigree steeped in NH quality and durability.
The third dam Affordthe Queen produced Queen of Spades, who beat the great Direct Route in a Grade-2 novice chase at Cheltenham, and who in turn became the dam of the Grade-2 placed hurdler Carlitos. Further descendants of Affordthe Queen include the top drawer Irish chaser Garamycin, the Grade-1 winning hurdler Pettifour, last season’s multiple Listed-winning and Grade-1 placed chaser Ms Parfois and the Galway Plate winner Afford a King.
Such quality is complemented by the identity of Royal Debutante’s sire. Presenting is not only a multiple Champion Sire and father of the likes of Denman, but he is also an advancing presence in the broodmare sire division. Last season alone his mares gave the Grade-1 King George winner and Gold Cup runner-up Might Bite and the Grade-1 winning novice chasers Presenting Percy and Death Duty. His presence on the page as damsire upgrades the pedigree enormously.
This mare was always considered a chasing prospect, such is her breeding, size and scope. That same physique will lend itself to producing strong and sturdy horses built for the rigours of National Hunt racing. With good looks and tremendous pedigree credentials, this mare looks a snip at the advertised price.
Viewing can be arranged by appointment at her former trainer’s yard in Cropredy, Oxfordshire.
