The Foxhound mare Canina is offered for sale, not in foal, as she has been given a year off.
During a long career on the track, Canina proved her consistency and soundness. She was a winner over six-furlongs on the AW at Wolverhampton, and she found the frame on no less than thirteen occasions.
Her most notable progeny so far is the eight-time winner M J Woodward, who was effective at five and six-furlongs and had an extraordinary strike rate. Like his mother, he was particularly effective on the AW, though he also won on turf. Canina's 2012 foal Toni's A Star was a six-time winner at sprint trips on the turf and AW, whilst her highly progressive son Jabbarockie won twice last season.
She is a daughter of successful broodmare Fizzy Fiona, who has given five winners including the seven-time winner Frascati - who was talented enough to be placed in Listed company.
Canina is by the sire Foxhound. He was a very smart five to seven-furlong performer and was group-race placed on multiple occasions. His place at stud was sealed by virtue of his impeccable pedigree. He is a half-brother to the leading South African stallion Al Mufti and the exceptional dual Grp-1 winning sprinter Wolfhound - also a stallion. Foxhound has proved himself more than capable of getting runners better than himself, notably the Grp-1 winning seven-furlong specialist Mount Abu and the Grp-3 Cornwallis Stakes winner Kier Park.
The stallion has had a worldwide impact as a broodmare sire, his influence in terms of stakes winners reaching such diverse destinations as India, Canada and Hong Kong. His best runner in this sense was the brilliant Hong Kong-based sprinter/miler Gold Fun, who collected the best part of £4 million during a glittering career.
An experienced mare but with plenty of good years ahead of her, Canina is a proven producer of tough and hardy multiple winners.
